Beever and Struthers is one of the North West's top 10 accountancy firms, with offices in Manchester, Birmingham and London. With teams spread across three locations and a company culture that embraces technology, they recognised the need to raise Microsoft 365 skill levels across the entire organisation.
The challenge wasn’t about lacking tools - it was about unlocking their full potential. Many staff had learned applications on their own, so confidence varied across different applications. By raising skill levels across the company and encouraging common practices for creating and storing information, communicating and collaborating, we aimed to build a stronger foundation for innovation. This approach reduces duplicated effort, streamlines processes, and opens up opportunities to work smarter, drive productivity and embrace new ways of working.
With a geographically dispersed workforce, any training solution needed to be accessible to everyone regardless of location, while still being practical, engaging and directly relevant to how the firm actually worked.
We designed and delivered a comprehensive all-staff Microsoft 365 training programme, working closely with stakeholders at Beever and Struthers to ensure every session aligned with the firm's business practices and goals.
Before any training began, we held regular Discovery Sessions to understand how the firm currently worked — their existing files, practices and behaviours when creating and sharing information. This shaped a programme that addressed real needs rather than generic content.
The initial programme was mandatory for all staff and covered eight core Microsoft 365 applications: Excel, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and OneNote. Each session focused on practical skills and common practices to ensure consistency across the organisation.
With offices in Manchester, Birmingham and London, online training via Teams was the obvious choice. Schedules were agreed well in advance, and staff registered for sessions that suited them — giving everyone access without disrupting client work.
The programme has continued beyond the initial rollout, expanding to include Power BI training and bespoke sessions tailored to specific teams and departments. What started as a foundational programme has become an ongoing capability-building partnership.
Every session was evaluated by trainees immediately afterwards, allowing us to refine and improve as we went. This feedback loop ensured the training remained relevant and effective throughout.
The feedback speaks for itself. The average evaluation score across all sessions was 4.9 out of 5 — with staff consistently reporting that the training was practical, relevant and immediately applicable to their work.
An overall review of the programme showed clear improvements in efficiency and productivity. Staff reported feeling more confident when working with Microsoft 365 applications, understanding the common practices to follow, and saving time every day on routine tasks.
The business impact was significant: the firm calculated productivity savings equivalent to over £500,000 per year as a result of staff performing tasks more quickly and effectively.
Beyond the numbers, the training reinforced Beever and Struthers' culture of embracing technology. Staff awareness of how to work more effectively increased across the whole company, creating a foundation for continued digital transformation.
